I mourn when any paper goes down. It's actually sadder when struggling little weekly papers close because then you are left with the syndicated giants.
I've written for several small papers which later closed their doors due to financial woes. People in Peekskill, NY, still miss their poor old Herald, which struggled to stay alive for a little more than ten years.
Our paper here in Danville, VA, has downsized and consolidated with another and is the poorer for it.
